Most of us are spending long hours in a forward flexion position and the dreaded 'text neck' has become a widespread symptom of mobile phone usage. Even going to the gym may not help if you are already fixed in a forward flexed position, and could even cause injuries to your shoulders leading to pain and loss of movement. Once a shoulder is painful, extra stress is placed on the arm muscles and joints which can tighten and pull the injured shoulder even further out of alignment. At Shropshire Massage Heather will first assess the likely causes of your shoulder problem before treating it with a combination of techniques (e.g. deep tissue massage, muscle energy techniques (MET) Soft Tissue Release). Once the shoulder is comfortable, a progression of exercises are introduced - exercises which are surprisingly simple to include as part of your daily life, with the aim of restoring pain-free function before moving on to more advanced exercises or those activities which you have had to avoid but would love to return to doing. By focusing on the causes of your shoulder problem, a range of advice and further techniques and exercises can be offered like taping, work-station set-up and sleep position/pillow. Sometimes anxiety about further pain and injury can get in the way of recovery.
